Important Update to the FDP Program

Important Update to FDP Program

As of December 11, 2023

Why is the FDP Program being paused after the Q2 2024 exam session?

The Q1 2024 retirement of Hossein Kazemi was certainly a catalyst, but having a firm grasp on the key learning outcomes for any high-stakes exam will always be top of mind. Now is the time to evaluate and self-test not only coverage of some newer tools such as generative AI, but to understand what this also means around ethics and a fiduciary duty which is being tested and stretched in new ways, in real time.

How long will the pause last?

This will always be a function of quality over quantity, along with addressing proper resources and related curriculum inputs. We do not expect to have another exam seating in 2024. We will look to evaluate our ability to organically continue to support and deliver this program focusing on better outcomes for the investor.

Will there be changes to the program structure or content upon resumption?

The exact purpose of the pause is to evaluate program structure and coverage. Any resumption would likely include changes in content which would also dictate the structure of the exam.

Is there support available for FDP Charterholders and Candidates after the Q2 exam session (or during this transition)?

The FDP Institute was established by the CAIA Association and FDP Charterholders will remain a valuable part of our community. Regardless of where we take this program next, the use-case of generative AI, deployment of algorithms, and the use of alternative data will continue to accelerate within the investment process, particularly in the alternative investment space. We can continue to learn from and interact with one another via content, webinars, and live events and would encourage you to set up a CAIA profile to be kept informed of industry learning opportunities that are not CAIA Member exclusive.

How will this affect my FDP Charter?

The FDP Charter is something you earned based on a combination of curiosity and the need/desire to fill a blind spot. That can never be taken away from you. You (and we) knew that this was a field that was developing very rapidly, and our curriculum and exam were a solid base to build from, as new insights and uses continued to disrupt the more traditional investment process.

Will my FDP digital badge remain verifiable?

Yes, we will continue to offer that via our relationship with Credly.

Will there be alternative options for FDP Candidates who are eligible to retake the exam?

In the near term, there will not be an opportunity to retake the FDP exam. We encourage anyone seeking to complete the FDP credential with a successful exam to register for the current exam session. Registration begins on December 11, 2023 – March 11, 2024. The exam window runs from April 8 - 22, 2024.
